J1: Entombed with the Pharaohs (Paizo Publishing)
Entombed with the Pharaohs written by Michael Kortes Paizo Publishing is a D20 adventure for groups of level 6-8. The adventure is a desert based one invoking a feel of ancient Egyptian lore complete with pyramids, pharaohs, traps, and treasure tombs all wrapped in a solid package illustrated with the high quality artwork you would expect from a Paizo product. Contained in this 36 page PDF file is enough to take your PCs through a trap riddled burial pyramid on another plane of existence and back again.
After reading this module all the way through the writing is very competent with enough information to help any DM whether novice or experienced move the characters gently through the adventure. There’s a secondary adventuring party which harries and could ally with the players if they are having a rough go at working their way through this adventure. Traps are very clever, magic items are well thought out and the entire Egyptian theme is served pleasantly in this module.
Overall I enjoyed this adventure and look forward to the next one in this series. This is definitely not a full on combat module, there is combat in scattered pockets here and there, instead it’s more of a Thinking Man’s adventure with all the traps and puzzles one would expect from a lair of four long dead sorcerer kings. If you as a DM have a group that is into heavy combat and not into methodically working their way through a dungeon carefully your players will not enjoy this one. If instead they are the kind to be wary and carry that proverbial ten foot wooden pole with their 50 feet of rope, they will have a heck of time with this journey through the tomb of the pharaohs.
